The Real Problem With Most Healthcare Websites
Most healthcare websites - doctor websites, medspas, dentists, dermatologists, podiatrists
don't have a problem with SEO itself. They have technical SEO mistakes caused by hiring
low-quality SEO specialists or low-quality marketers, paying them $500 to $1,000 a month, thinking it won't cost a lot of money.
Instead of helping, these low-cost SEO people actually hurt your ranking and your website. They create duplicate content, thin page content, category pages, tag pages, and all kinds of nonsense. They don't just copy-paste articles they use AI to write content that isn't informative and provides no value to patients who want real information about treatments and procedures.
We have audited more than 100 medspa and doctor websites. We have millions of impressions worth of data points from Google across our audits. We know the common mistakes and pitfalls every doctor and medspa owner makes when they try to do SEO on their own.
Here are the exact problems we find with real examples, so you don't make the same mistakes.
Real Example: A Dallas Medspa
BEFORE AUDIT
100K impressions
Only 40 clicks/month
AFTER FIXES
3% CTR
100+ visitors, 5 booked calls in one week
Fix time: One afternoon. Title tags, meta descriptions, and review stars in search results.
This medspa had more than 100 pages. Condition pages, treatment pages, procedure pages each with around 1,000 words of content. 20+ blog posts updated weekly. Their team was doing a great job at updating the website.
But they were getting only 40 clicks a month from 100,000+ impressions.
Category pages were ranking in Google. When people clicked and landed on a category page, all they saw was a bunch of blog post titles. That's it. People hit back immediately. Bounce rate: 100%. The same thing happened with tag pages.
The pages that actually had content were unreadable. Full blocks of text. No images. No section breaks. No subheadings. No table of contents. People would land on the page, try to read the wall of text, give up, and go back to Google to book with another medspa.
The fix took one afternoon. Small changes title tag fixes, meta description fixes, adding five-star review ratings in search results instantly improved their click-through rate. One page went from near-zero to 3% CTR, which produced over 100 visitors. Five of them booked a call within a week.
What We Check in 30 Minutes
1
We Google You (And You Should Too)
The first thing we do is Google your main services plus the city name. Medspa Dallas. Botox Dallas. HydraFacial Dallas. Laser Hair Removal Dallas.
When we search, we find out whether you're on page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4 or maybe not showing up at all.
Sometimes clients come to us saying they're getting visitors but not many customers. When we look, they're ranking on page 1, position 4 or 5 with a click-through rate around 4 to 5 percent. The problem? Title tags are not optimized and meta descriptions are not optimized.
The title tag will be something like "Medspa Dallas" or just the brand name. No optimization at all. Why would someone click on a brand name they've never heard of? People click on the medspa that tells them what they are, who they are, and what they provide all in those few characters.
This one fix can increase click-through rate from 4–5% to 20–30%. Your position moves from 5 or 6 to position 1 or 2, because Google rewards pages that get clicked.
And here's the thing most owners don't realize: they tell us they rank number one whenever they search. They have no clue that they're looking at their own search history. Google personalizes results. You see yourself. Your patients don't.
2
Google Business Profile Audit
We look at your Google My Business page. Most practices haven't updated it in a very long time. The last photo was posted three years ago. The last review was a year ago.
It doesn't mean they're not getting clients. They are. They're just clueless about asking for more reviews. Even when they ask, it's lazy "Hey, leave us a review." That's it. No review generation software. No follow-ups. No incentive.
Here's what's dangerous: a new business opening right now can quickly get 30–40 reviews in the first month just by actively asking. Google doesn't care how many hundreds of reviews you accumulated three years ago. They care about how many reviews you got last month and in the last three months.
The quality of reviews matters too. You can have 100 five-star reviews with one-line responses. But your competitor might have only 20 reviews where each one is a full paragraph — the patient describing how caring the team was. Those 20 detailed reviews will beat your 100 one-liners every time.
3
Mobile Experience Audit
80 to 90 percent of medspa searches happen on mobile phones. People don't open their laptop to book a Botox appointment. They're on their phone. They're driving. They're using Siri to find a medspa. They're asking Alexa to find the best medspa near them.
They want to instantly book an appointment. They don't have time to read your About section or understand your mission statement before they book.
They want to quickly see what you offer. Quickly scan who you are. Quickly see before-and-after pictures. And quickly see how many reviews you have and how good they are.
Most medspa websites don't load within 3 seconds on mobile. Even when they do, the booking experience is terrible. People have to click through 15 steps to book an appointment. People aren't going to go through all of that. It creates a massive drop-off rate.
And here's something most small medspa owners ignore: phone calls during non-business hours. If someone calls after hours and you never call them back, that's a lost patient.

Content Gap Analysis
Google can't rank you for pages you don't have.
Recently, an IV therapy medspa client reached out to us. They wanted to rank in Dallas, a very competitive market dominated by giants with 10+ locations and 300+ reviews each.
Their reviews were fine five-star rating with 50+ reviews. But they had only 15 pages. All 15 had thin content 300 to 500 words, all AI-written.
They kept asking, "We're doing a great service. Why are people not finding us?"
You're trying to beat enterprise companies with 1,000+ pages using your 15 thin pages. You don't need 1,000 pages to beat a giant. But you need at least 100 pages of cornerstone content to compete in a market like Dallas.
This is exactly what we did for a medspa in Los Angeles. We grew them from zero to $1 million a year in organic revenue. Because Google can't rank you for pages you don't have. Google wants to connect the right user with the right business. But if you don't have what people are searching for, Google can't send you traffic.
5
Search Console Audit : Where the Real Gold Is
In most medspa audits, we find that practices are ranking on page 2 or page 3 for keywords that matter. A small push updated content, internal cross-linking, content cluster strategy, new images can move those page 2 rankings to page 1 within 30 to 60 days.
But nobody gives importance to this. Instead, they keep writing new pages, new pages, new pages. This creates canonical problems. Google gets confused about which page to rank. The cannibalization kills everything.
These are basic audit fixes that you can do yourself using free SEO tools. Without knowing a lot of technical stuff, you can fix many of these common issues and start beating your competitors.
